La Gelati

Unique offering, wide variety for all tastes.
La Gelati first opened its doors in Canton in March of 2021, quickly becoming an area favorite for frozen treats and sweets. The family owned and operated business was established in 2014 when owner Zee Cherkaoui transformed her computer store in East Dearborn into an ice cream shop. Since then, La Gelati has expanded, and the family business has spread to multiple locations in Michigan and one in Wisconsin.
The Canton location was strategically chosen to introduce a one-of-a-kind dessert experience to the area, especially since it was getting rarer to find frozen yogurt as other shops closed down.
“Everyone started liking it and La Gelati was a common place to be, so I decided to open it in other places too,” Cherkaoui said.

What sets La Gelati apart from other ice cream shops is their unique offerings and wide variety of treats for every taste.
One of their specialties is handmade ashta, an old ice cream tradition that originated in what is now Syria. Cherkaoui explained that ashta is smoother and closer to gelato than traditional American ice cream.
In addition to their famous ashta, La Gelati offers traditional ice cream, gelato, frozen yogurt, sundaes, smoothies, shakes, crepes, waffles, mini pancakes and so much more.
The impressively diverse menu gives every guest a chance to satisfy their sweet tooth whether they’re in the mood for a chocolate brownie or a fresh fruit smoothie.
“Any time a customer walks in and wants to make their own sundae or add anything special we can do that too,” said Cherkaoui, explaining that all treats offered are customizable.
La Gelati has gained recognition for its original creations, such as Red Bull boba, which has since become a hit that other stores have caught on to, as well as trending treats like Dubai chocolate desserts and crepes made to look like sushi or fettucine.
Dubbed the “Factory of Happiness,” La Gelati is designed to be a welcoming space for everyone with a bright and colorful ambiance.

Whether guests are looking for a classic scoop of gelato, an ashta fruit bowl or a custom waffle stick, La Gelati draws customers of all ages and from all backgrounds.
Beyond being Canton’s one-stop shop for desserts, La Gelati is committed to giving back to the community they serve with both reasonable prices and a generous spirit.
“We sponsor a lot of schools, the police and fire departments and help with a lot of fundraisers any way we can,” Cherkaoui said.
With warmer weather on the horizon, La Gelati, located at 42545 Ford Road, is the perfect place to cool down with a frozen treat.
