When Mario Maniac and Vesna Cadikovska-Maniac visited New Orleans a decade ago, they fell in love with Cajun-style cuisine. With Maniac’s 15 years of experience as an executive chef in Plymouth, the pair decided to open a restaurant that embodied the bold flavors and southern comfort foods they came to love.

In March 2016, they opened their first French Toast Bistro in Plymouth. Five years later, the Canton location opened on October 4, 2021, bringing the charm of its original location to the heart of Canton.

Unlike other brunch spots in the Metro Detroit area, French Toast Bistro offers flavors you’d be more likely to find in Louisiana, like Cajun shrimp and grits and lobster omelettes. Guests can immerse themselves in tastes of the south—like shrimp, chicken and sausage gumbo soup—without leaving Canton.

The French-inspired Cajun eatery boasts a full scratch kitchen with all their dishes made fresh in house and prepared primarily from locally sourced ingredients.

Whether guests are stopping in for brunch, lunch or a midday entrée, they’ll be met with vibrant flavors and comforting dishes, from French toast and chicken and waffles to Caribbean jerk chicken wings and Cajun hash.

While they offer rotating chef-made cheesecakes and cobblers for dessert, French Toast Bistro is known for their famous beignets. The light and fluffy, golden brown French pastry is dusted with powdered sugar and is the perfect after-dinner treat. General manager Yaya Conner said that the restaurant offers complimentary beignets for birthdays and anniversaries. The Canton location features a full-service bar with handcrafted cocktails, including the elderflower mimosa and the French 77, a variety of wines and draft and bottled beer.

Non-alcoholic fresh bar smoothies are also available to order.

French Toast Bistro’s open-air patio is perfect to take advantage of Michigan’s spring and summer weather while enjoying a meal outdoors, and unique New Orleans-inspired wall art adds flair and personality to each guest’s dining experience. More than just a restaurant, French Toast Bistro is an active member of Canton’s community. They regularly support local initiatives by sponsoring gift cards for events and fundraising raffles.

Additionally, the restaurant can accommodate larger groups of 25–75 guests inside the restaurant for events like private parties, meetings, showers, baptisms and more by reservation.
