McAvoy & Reid Law Firm

Building trust with clients is what they do
McAvoy & Reid is a neighborhood law office with longstanding roots in the community that puts the needs and interests of their neighbors at the forefront of everything they do. While they have the power to hit home runs, they also have the ability to score victories in many different ways that puts their clients in the win column.
“We specialize in divorce, estate planning, probate and bankruptcy and are focused on everyday problems,” said Chris McAvoy, who founded the firm in 2003. “We aren’t stuffy, snobby or dramatic. When necessary, we can aggressively represent our clients but we really try to solve problems in a practical, cost-effective manner.” McAvoy says the Plymouth-Canton area was an easy decision for the location of his firm—it’s home after all. Chris, and his wife Michelle, have lived in Plymouth for over 20 years.
“Our children attended P-CCS schools, and I also coach varsity softball for Plymouth High School,” McAvoy said. “We have many roots in the Plymouth-Canton area, so practicing law in our backyard was a natural decision. When the right opportunity for space became available, we jumped on it. With our office on Ford Road, we love the energy of being in a dynamic and growing business community.”McAvoy attended U-M for his undergraduate degree and earned his law degree from MSU College of Law. With more than 20 years of experience, he will analyze your legal problem and provide a practical solution. He has experience in bankruptcy, probate, estate planning, real estate and family law, and has the knowledge and experience to help with a wide range of legal problems.

“I provide practical advice on potential outcomes to help our clients decide on how to proceed,” he said. “As a certified mediator, I understand that client participation is key in resolving legal problems. However, when necessary, having a lawyer with trial experience that knows his way around a court room is invaluable.”
The firm grew when McAvoy brought in Christina M. Reid as a partner and the two have formed quite an impressive team. “Christina joined the office over five years ago,” McAvoy said. “She is smart, hardworking and personable, so expanding her role within the office was an easy decision. She focuses on estate planning, probate and trust administration/litigation. This allows me to focus on family law, bankruptcy and general civil litigation.”
Because her focus is on Estate Planning and Probate/Trust Administration, she assists others with a difficult part of life by guiding and counseling them throughout the process.
“My personal goal is to be down-to-earth with my clients, ensuring they understand without overwhelming them with information,” she said. “It is my pleasure to offer complimentary consultations in the office or remotely via phone and Zoom.” Reid received her B.A. from U-M and graduated magna cum laude from Western Michigan University – Thomas M. Cooley Law School. She was awarded the law school’s Leadership Achievement Award for her commitment and assistance to others.
McAvoy says the two build trust relationships with their clients, some of whom they have represented for a decade or longer. “When a client refers their close family members for estate planning or other legal needs, we feel we are doing something right,” he said.
McAvoy & Reid is located at 42180 Ford Road (Suite 102) in Canton.
